The diminutive natural footer has long been on the radar of the collective competitive surfing world. 2006 saw Basnett put together a stellar campaign on the WQS, including a runner up finish at Margaret River and a 3rd place finish in France. His excellent 3rd place finish on the '06 season's ASP WQS ratings served him well in '07, easing him into the first few elite level events safe from drawing rookie slayers Kelly Slater, Andy Irons and Mick Fanning in the early rounds.

With a 25th finish in 2007, Basnett is beginning to adjust to the World Tour competitive format and look for him to turn more than a few heads as the season progresses.
